I started this project, Dylan Duchene, as a freshman at Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning. Every year, SAEL students submit a project that will improve their watershed to Caring For Our Watersheds. This international organization happens to have a location for the Sacramento River Watershed, which includes Nevada County and the Yuba River. I highly recommend checking out Caring For Our Watersheds for more context.
I was thinking about what to do my project on, and I wanted it to be something no one else had done before, as I was invested in implementing it. I remembered about hearing the impacts of chemical sunscreen on the Yuba River and decided to further research it. Now, here we are, with my creation, Good 4 The Yuba, helping to promote sunscreen that does not harm the Yuba.
The idea is anyone that who quickly pops into one of my partnering stores is able to quickly identify sunscreen that does not harm aquatic environments and animals, without any previous context.
I hope this site and the signage in stores educate people about the importance of taking care of our Yuba, both tourists and locals.
