According to the Environmental Working Group, a research and advocacy organisation that has been reporting since 1933, about 75% of over 1,850 sunscreen products provide poor skin protection, and only provide some of the claimed protection from UV rays. These sunscreens, many of which badly affect local areas like the Yuba River with toxic chemicals, such as oxybenzone, have also been linked to human health issues. You can learn more about these previously known issues here on the Issue page. Many of these can't even be sold in Europe due to these issues. Recommended sunscreens contain non-nano zinc or titanium oxide, a broad spectrum label, and an SPF rating between 30 and 50.
